The Virginia State Police have launched a new "Ride Smart, Arrive Alive" program. this program is being implemented due to an 87% increase in motorcycle accident related fatalities in 2007. The program has 3 phases; Education through public awareness and safety programs about motorcycling. Enforcement; the police will strictly enforce incidents of rider DUIs, reckless driving and other traffic laws. Roadway Management; finding problem areas of the highway infrastructure that may contribute to accidents and have them repaired or changed.
