Proposed Virginia Law Would Give Sex Crime Victims More Time to Sue

March 20, 2011
Topic: Personal Injury

The Virginia Legislature has proposed a bill that would allow victims of sexual abuse to sue the perpetrator (or the organization that employed the perpetrator) for up to 20 years after the abuse occurred.  This would increase the limit from the current 2 year statute of limitations.

It is important for the victims of crime and the families of victims to remember that even if the perpetrator was prosecutor, you still have the right to file a civil lawsuit against the defendant and possibly the company that employed the defendant.  Speak with a former Virginia prosecutor for a free consultation.
